Hi, John with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at, and installing, the Blue Ox base plate kit on our 2017 Chevrolet Sonic. Now, this Blue Ox base plate kit is gonna allow you to flat tow your Chevy Sonic down the road behind your RV. Now, this is just the base plate kit, but it does include the removable arms on either side and it's gonna be set up for you for safety cables, for a breakaway switch and your tow bar wiring. Now, this base plate kit is just one of five pieces that you need to safely flat tow down the road. Of course, the base plate is the physical connection on your Sonic, but you're also gonna need tow bar wiring. more

There's five main components you're gonna need when flat towing your vehicle behind your motor home. You're going to need your tow bar, your baseplate, your diode wiring, your safety cables, and your supplemental braking system. And this is what our baseplate looks like when it's installed. You can see here that it passes through the grill here at the bottom of the front of our fascia and the majority of it's hidden behind the fascia. more

Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit Installation - 2019 Chevrolet Sonic- Video
Rob: Rob, here, at etrailer.com. And today, we're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster Crossbar Style Base Plate Kit with removable arms. And here's what it's going to look like once we have it installed. Our base plate is going to give us that secure connection point so we can hook our tow bar up to our Sonic and safely flat tow it down the road. It's also going to spread that towing force across the front end, so we are not putting so much strain and stress on the front suspension.Now, when we are flat towing, we obviously need a spot for our tow bar to hook up to, but let's face it, nobody wants this big black thing hanging out the front of their car and distracting from the looks of it. Well, Roadmaster took that into effect, and we can actually pull these out when we are not using them. more

Blue Ox Base Plate Kit Installation - 2018 Chevrolet Sonic- Video
Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Chevrolet Sonic we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Blue Ox base plate kit with removable arms, part number BX1703. Now keep in mind this is only gonna be one component of the safe, complete flat tow set up. For a complete set up you are gonna need a base plate, tow bar wiring, a tow bar, and a braking system. Specifically for our Sonic we also used a fuse master and fuse bypass because we do need to pull fuses for them.Here's what our Blue Ox base plate kit looks like installed on our Sonic. It's gonna serve as that connection point between our motor home and our Sonic to make sure that we can hook up and safely tow it down the road. Now one thing I do want to mention the breakaway switch as well as the electrical and other connectors here are not included in the kit but they're just there because we got everything installed to complete our flat tow set up. more

Blue Ox Base Plate Kit Installation - 2013 Chevrolet Sonic- Video
Today, on our 2013 Chevrolet Sonic, we'll be having a look at and installing the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit With Removable Arms, part number BX1703. All right. Here's what it looks like installed. As you can see, with our removable arms out of the base plate, we have a very nice and clean look on the front of our vehicle. The only part that sticks out past our license plate frame here is the safety chain attachment points that will go between our motor home and our Sonic. Now, when we're ready to flat tow, we can take our arms, we'll put them in at a 90 degree angle where the arm is horizontal here on the tab. more

Blue Ox Base Plate Kit Installation - 2014 Chevrolet Sonic- Video
Today on our 2014 Chevrolet Sonic, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Blue Ox base plate kit with removable arms, part number BX1703. Here's what this base plate is going to look like once it's installed on the vehicle. As you can see, it gives us a pretty clean look overall because nothing really juts out very far from the front fascia here. The most noticeable part is going to be the safety chain connection points which just come out a little bit past the front of this license plate here. It has these 2 mounting rods that you can mount electrical brackets to for connectors such as your 4 round or 6 round so that it can connect to your motor home. It does come with an L-bracket to mount up a breakaway switch. The breakaway switch itself does not come with it because that would come with your supplemental braking system, but it comes with the bracket in order to help you mount that up. You've got the 2 safety chain connection points that are right here at the bottom corners of the license plate frame and then you've got your mounting tabs here coming out of the fascia of either side of the license plate. What's really nice about this base plate is how easy it is to use. When you're getting ready to hit the road, in order to get ready to hook up your tow bar, you can just slide your arms in, push them down so that pin collapses, turn it until it locks into place. Then that's not going to go anywhere and you're ready to pull once you've got all of your other things connected. more

Technician : Today in our 2016 Chevrolet Sonic we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Blue Ox base plate kit with removable arms, part number BX1703. Here's what this base plate's going to look like once it's installed in on the vehicle. As you can see, everything's pretty well flush to the front fascia here. The things that stick out the most are the safety chain connection points and they're just a little bit out past this license plate here. Not terribly noticeable, so overall it's going to help maintain a pretty clean look to the front of the vehicle when not being towed. This base plate bolts onto the outside of the frame rails at the front of the vehicle just behind the front bumper. Then it comes across and comes out here through this lower grill, therefor it's a really easy access point and it's going to be really good to be functional to be able to tow your vehicle behind your motorhome. It does feature the removable arms so when you're ready to tow, simply slide them into place, push in and turn until it locks into place. more

Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Kit Installation - 2014 Chevrolet Sonic- Video
Today on our 2014 Chevy Sonic, we'll be installing the Roadmaster EZ5 base plate kit with removable arm, part number RM-523173-5. Now, to begin our install, we'll first go ahead and open up the hood. We'll need to remove the fasteners that secure the upper fascia to the grille and core support. To remove the plastic push pin fasteners, we'll pry out on the center and then remove the fastener completely. There are a total of 6 push pin fasteners. Next, we'll need to remove the four bolts that also secure the upper fascia. Now, our upper fascia is loose. more

Today in our 2012 Chevrolet Sonic, we're going to be installing the Roadmaster EZ4 base plate kit. Part number 523173-4. First we're going to go ahead need to remove some fasteners here on the top side of our front front fascia. There's some push fasteners, as well as some bolts that will need to be removed. The locations will be the same for over on the driver's side. Now we're going to begin here with the push fasteners ones. more

Roadmaster Tow Bar Installation - 2012 Chevrolet Sonic- Video
Today on our 2012 Chevy Sonic, well be installing the Roadmaster Falcon all terrain tow bar, part number rm-522. Well be installing this on to the Roadmaster easy two baseplate with removable arms, part number 523173-1. The first step of installing our Falcon tow bar, well be installing the quick disconnect brackets on to the removable arms of the baseplate. To do this, well take the bracket lining up the predrilled holes on the bracket with the predrilled holes on the arms. Then well take our bolt and run it through the bolt plate, through the bracket, and through the arm securing it with a flat washer, split lock washer and nut. Therell be a total of two bolts per arm, for a total of four bolts altogether.Now with all of our hardware installed finger tight, well then take the quick disconnect base and drop it into position on top of the quick disconnect brackets. more

Roadmaster Base Plate Installation - 2012 Chevrolet Sonic- Video
Today in our 2012 Chevrolet Sonic, we'll be installing the Roadmaster EZ2 Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms, part number 523173-1. Note, we've already gone ahead and raised the vehicle and removed the front tires. However, it is not necessary. It can make it easier in the removal and reassembly of the front clip. We'll remove the six pushpin fasteners and four bolts going across the top of the front of the clip underneath the hood. Next, we're going to go ahead and move underneath the vehicle, where we will remove seven Torx bit fasteners, one plastic pushpin fastener, and two bolts so that we can go ahead and disconnect the front clip from the lower fascia and remove the lower panel. more
